UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
GRAPHIC DESIGN SENIOR EXHIBITION
TWENTY DESIGNERS.
TWENTY PERSPECTIVES.
TWENTY DEGREES.
TWENTY° is the compilation of work created by twenty designers from the 2016 University of Houston Graphic Design senior class. Marking the culmination of twenty journeys, we approach the conclusion of two years immersed in a program designed to equip us with the necessary skills and abilities to become successful designers. TWENTY° commemorates the odyssey of our professional growth using the work we have produced together.
We are a multi-layered, multifaceted group of individuals with different perspectives and angles coalescing into one.

I’m drawn to explosive colors, bold typography, photography and crazy ideas. Everything I do, I do it with passion and I always give it my all. But it is crucial for me as a designer to never limit myself to one style and to constantly be learning new things.

Design directs my creative mind and disciplines my craft into works that communicate with people and speaks a special message. Connecting with an audience and the learning experience with each project resulting in good design are some of the reasons why I love design. There is always room to improve and grow in both creativity and craft and the learning process never ends. I love that there are no limits to what you can use and do.

All through school I’ve been told I spent too much time day dreaming and drawing, these observations were noted and luckily I stumbled upon a field of study that labeled such activates as part of the overall process.

My curiosity has always decided my path. My fixation is what steadies my mind. My creativity is my outlet to what is unrealized about my journey. In the end, each exploration impels a new direction.

I’m intrigued by the message that the simplicity of a logo can bring while at the same time obsess over lettering and always find myself dabbling in different styles of illustration. For me, design is many things, and I never want to be tied to just one aspect of it.

I find comfort in bold subtleties, erratic rationale, and calculated intuitions. I am driven to create harmony in all that I do, and design is a medium through which I channel this. By employing my affinity for beauty to harmonize language, ideas, and form, I strive to create solutions that are both visceral and imaginative.

Quirky, humorous, with a touch of attitude is what I am in life and design. Life is short, so I plan to design great stuff, drink plenty of coffee, and pet as many cats as possible.

Design is my road to creative self-expression. I am detail-oriented and love typography, lettering, coffee and sweets. I am drawn to conceptual design that induces emotion and challenges people. It is a powerful kind of design, and it’s the kind of design I strive to achieve.

In my design, I enjoy experimenting with textures, hand drawn illustrations, and lettering. For me, graphic design is about telling a story, discovering a deeper understanding of a topic, and bringing that to light. Through this, I’m able to tie in my design aesthetic with purpose and meaning to establish a strong voice in the world.

The possibilities with design are endless. That is what intrigued me about design, being able to communicate with the world with visual content in more than one way.

I am born and raised in Houston, Texas and a lover of all things handmade. I have an obsession with process and the way things are made. Design for me is like taking a picture, there are several ways to approach it and that is what makes things exciting for me, something new each time.

For me, graphic design is about building relationships and immersing yourself in—and trying to piece together—a world filled with endless, ubiquitous information. It’s an open-ended medium where I can enjoy the process as much as the outcome.
I like to keep design interesting by conceptualizing with a twist. So that’s what I do.

What I strive for in my design work is an attention to detail and a strong voice. I am drawn towards anything that tells a story and often find myself buying things because of their packaging. I possess all the good traits of a Scorpio and none of the bad.

Design is more than pretty things: it is a way of communication. Design teaches various forms of expression, construction and logic thinking.
When creating work, the basic principles of design are my tools to bringing forth rich concepts; simplicity, symmetry, and color can be used to create work that is both visually pleasing as well as mentally stimulating.

The best part about being a graphic designer is that you are never limited to graphic design. Massimo Vignelli said it best, “If you can design one thing you can design everything.” And, that is what I plan to do.

Bold colors, typography, lettering and conveying emotions through my work drive my passion for graphic design. Designs are quietly everywhere, imposing their ever-present meanings to our lives, without even us even noticing.

Cats and jazz and all things Miyazaki is what I do when I’m not designing. I’m obsessed with everything creative but most importantly, I love how design can reach such a broad audience and make an impact. Kind of like cats.

Design for me is an outlet to let my creativity impact the audience. Every challenge is another great opportunity to let my creativity come out and shine with a simple but beautiful solutions. Everything is a learning experience so therefore I will keep seeking new challenges and opportunities to evolve as a designer.

For me, design for a good cause is the best design. If you can make an audience that lives in a completely different culture understand the message you’re trying to convey, you are successful. It’s not about changing the world, but making the world a better place. And as designers, we have the ability to do so.
